Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Modulates Lateral Migration Rate and Morphology of the Red River (North Dakota, USA and Manitoba, Canada)

چکیده
Abstract The lateral migration of a river meander is driven by erosion on the outer bank and deposition inner bank, both which are affected shear stress (and therefore channel slope) through complex morphodynamic feedbacks. To test sensitivity to slope, we quantify slope change induced glacial isostatic adjustment along Red River (North Dakota, USA Manitoba, Canada) two its tributaries over past 8.5 ka. We demonstrate statistically significant, positive relationship between normalized cutoff count, interpret as proxy for rate, change. this signature modulating magnitude riverbanks, suggesting that changes occur thousands years recorded in floodplain morphology.

Modelling the glacial isostatic adjustment of the UK region.
The glacial isostatic adjustment of the UK region has been considered in a number of recent studies. We have revisited this problem in order to: (i) highlight some key issues with regard to limitations in the ice modelling approach adopted in these studies and (ii) consider the constraints provided from observations of crustal motion available via continuous global positioning system monitoring...
متن کاملGlacial isostatic adjustment in the static gravity field of Fennoscandia
In the central part of Fennoscandia, the crust is currently rising, because of the delayed response of the viscous mantle to melting of the Late Pleistocene ice sheet. This process, called Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA), causes a negative anomaly in the present-day static gravity field as isostatic equilibrium has not been reached yet. Several studies have tried to use this anomaly as a con...
متن کاملObservation of glacial isostatic adjustment in ‘‘stable’’ North America with GPS
[1] Motions of three hundred and sixty Global Positioning System (GPS) sites in Canada and the United States yield a detailed image of the vertical and horizontal velocity fields within the nominally stable interior of the North American plate. By far the strongest signal is the effect of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) due to ice mass unloading during deglaciation. Vertical velocities show ...
متن کاملEpidemiology / Épidémiologie Prevalence of pathogenicity groups of Leptosphaeria maculans in western Canada and North Dakota, USA
Blackleg, caused by Leptosphaeria maculans, is an economically important disease of canola (Brassica napus). Little is known about the current distribution of pathogenicity groups (PGs) of L. maculans in Canada and the United States. Four hundred and eighty-nine isolates of L. maculans or Leptosphaeria biglobosa from western Canada and North Dakota, United States, were placed in five PGs (PG-1 ...
متن کاملStructural Equation Model of Total Phosphorus Loads in the Red River of the North Basin, USA and Canada.
Attribution of the causes of trends in nutrient loading is often limited to correlation, qualitative reasoning, or references to the work of others. This paper represents efforts to improve causal attribution of water-quality changes. The Red River of the North basin provides a regional test case because of international interest in the reduction of total phosphorus loads and the availability o...
